Road, Rail & Barge
Whilst road transport is the most frequent mode of inland transport within the UK, rail and barge options can often provide viable alternatives.

Abnormal load movements from UK to / from Europe will often move by road door to door because of the avoidance of handling at the ports. Deliveries deep into Eastern Europe and CIS may often be carried by road all the way.

Containers are now frequently moved by rail in the UK for at least part of their journey.

Overseas, use of rail can be mandatory for abnormal loads and where large distances are involved, the natural choice. Rail carriage of abnormal loads is common throughout India, CIS and North America where many sites have rail spurs.
In the UK, many inland waterways are no longer navigable but barge traffic still survives in some parts and can be useful for abnormal loads.

Barges are widely used throughout Europe, CIS and North America.

Fastship have extensive experience of road, rail and barge operations, particularly abnormal load deliveries overseas.
